Percutaneous Decompression/Curopsy
Minimally Invasive Surgeries
What is Curopsy?
- Curopsy is a procedure involving biopsy with curative intent.
- It is a fairly fast and smaller procedure.
Where is Curopsy Indicated?
- Primary Benign Bone Tumours such as Aneurysmal Bone Cyst and Simple Bone Cyst.
How is Percutaneous Decompression/Curopsy Performed?
- Day care basis
- Under local anesthesia and/or general anesthesia
- Small Scar (Similar to Core Needle Biopsy)
- First step Is to biopsy the area under image guidance and confirm the diagnosis (bloody aspiration in case of Primary ABC)
- Next step is when a curette is used to scrape the wall of cavity under image guidance (making sure not to breach the wall) and aspirating its contents.
- The sample is sent for further histopathological correlation.
- The above step may be repeated depending on the crypts/septate and size of lesion.
- Adequate digital compression is given and followed by application of compression bandage.
What precautions to be taken post Curopsy?
- Avoid strenuous activities.
- In case of lower limb, a degree of protection from bearing full weight may be advised.
How long does it take for results in Curopsy?
- It takes an average of 3 -6 months for discernible results on Curopsy.
Can Curopsy Fail?
- Yes, the chance of Curopsy not being effective is between 10-18%.
- In such, cases the lesion is treated with either sclerosant injection or extended curettage as feasible.
